Creston Police Department Introduces Automated Speed Enforcement to Protect School Zones
The Creston Police Department in Ohio has partnered with Blue Line Solutions to implement Automated Speed Enforcement (ASE) in school zones, bringing a data-driven approach to improving roadway safety around Norwayne Elementary and High School zones.
A pre-program speed study conducted along Main Street revealed significant speeding activity during active school hours.
At Norwayne Elementary School:
- Over 14,900 vehicles were recorded during the study period
- More than 3,000 speeding violations occurred
- Over 20% of drivers were exceeding the speed limit by 11 MPH or more
At Norwayne High School:
- Over 15,800 vehicles were recorded
- More than 1,000 speeding violations occurred
- Speeding rates reached nearly 7% overall, with spikes nearing 11% on certain days
These findings highlight a clear safety concern for students, staff, and families traveling through these zones each day.
Automated Speed Enforcement provides a consistent, unbiased method to address speeding behavior without increasing demands on officer resources. By focusing on measurable outcomes and transparent enforcement, the program is designed to improve compliance and reduce risk.
“Data tells the real story,” said Mark Hutchinson, CEO and Founder of Blue Line Solutions. “When communities can clearly see where and when speeding is happening, they can take meaningful action. Creston is doing exactly that to protect its students.”
As the program moves forward, Creston joins a growing number of communities nationwide using technology to create safer school zones and reduce preventable risk.
